Cities Come to Life |
Monday morning at Missouri Boys State marks the beginning of independence within the cities. Now, Mayors lead the daily city meetings, City Council members
are thinking about implementing their own laws, and city beautification begins across the state.
After attending their Schools of Instruction,
citizens take their newfound knowledge back to their cities to begin laying the foundations of their blossoming municipalities.
Amidst a very busy afternoon, every county held a Politcal Party Rally. During these meetings every citizen will be able to voice his opinion
on what stances and viewpoints that they think their county should stand behind. After their political platform has been ratified, the citizens will host a caucus
within their party for their county Government. Following the County Caucuses, the citizens were able to observe a live court case from the Western District of the
Missouri Court of Appeals.

Information is the Currency of Democracy
|
Tonight, the program welcomed Margaret Brennan, the current moderator of CBS News' Face the Nation and the network's senior foreign affairs
correspondent. Brennan was selected to receive the 31st Annual George Lehr Memorial Chair. Brennan gave a prepared speech to the citizens of the 80th
session of Missouri Boys State tonight. In her speech, she quoted Thomas Jefferson, saying: "Information is the Currency of Democracy." Brennan
stressed how important this phrase is in today's politcal climate. In the latter part of her speech, she talked about the value of journalism, and the effects that
good journalists can have on the world. Brennan described how a simple question to then Secretary of State John Kerry, lead to international talks to create the Iran Nuclear Deal.
After her prepared speech, Ms. Brennan fielded questions from Citizens of MBS ranging in topics from foreign policy, to her 'big break' in journalism.
