LARTEY ELECTED 62nd GOVERNOR OF MISSOURI BOYS STATE

(WARRENSBURG, MO) -- Siddik Lartey of Kansas City,
MO became the 62nd Governor of the Missouri Boys State yesterday
evening. Lartey was anxious, excited, and ready to get to work.
He said, "I appreciate every vote that I got. I've got the
position, and now I've got to take care of my duty. It's overwhelming.
and I'm almost speechless."
Back home in Kansas City, Lartey attends Hickman
Mills High School. He is the President of the Student Council, and
he is active in forensic activities. He serves with Increase the
Peace, an organization that orients incoming freshmen to the high
school environment. In addition, he is captain of the football team
and plays on the baseball team. Outside of school, he is active
with his church and sings in the choir.
After high school, Lartey would like to study sports
medicine. He is seriously considering Drake and Texas Christian
University.
Other students elected to statewide office were:
Lt. Governor,Scott Cunningham of Chesterfield, MO
Secretary of State, Scott Glabe of Columbia, MO
State Auditor, Keion Parrish of Kansas City, MO
State Treasurer, Jae Shin of Butler, MO
Attorney General, Wesley Coby of Kansas City, MO
and Eric Lynch of Cape Girardeau, MO was elected Chief Justice of
the Supreme Court.
The following individuals were elected as regular
members of the Boys State Supreme Court:
Marcus Dixon, Kansas City, MO
Jimmie Draper, St. Peters, MO
Jonathan Haden, Springfield, MO
Justin Thompson, Jackson, MO
Simon Mahan, Neosho, MO
Maurice Hayden III, Berkeley, MO
Only young men who distinguish themselves as leaders in their high
schools and communities are selected to attend the Missouri Boys
State program. Missouri Boys State is a citizenship and leadership
training program sponsored by the Missouri American Legion. Boys
State was held during the week of June 16-23, 2001 on the campus
of Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO.
