George Lehr attended Boys State while in high school and was elected to the Boys State Legislature. George was an all‑state high school basketball player who was later stricken with Polio. Despite his disability, George Lehr went on to become Auditor of the State of Missouri and later was the Chief Executive Officer of the Central States Pension Fund, which he is credited with reforming. For his many years of service to Boys State, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Following his death in 1988, the George Lehr Memorial Chair was established to assist in developing programs and funding nationally known speakers for Missouri Boys State. The Lehr Chair continues to prosper today due to the generosity of George Lehr's many friends throughout the country who remember this great man's contribution to the youth of Missouri.
