Ralph Biele has served as a member of the Missouri Boys State staff for over 35 years. Few people on the staff have given more time, effort and care to Boys State and its participants.
In 1971, he came to Boys State as a corporal in the Missouri Highway Patrol and Boys State has been the beneficiary of his passion and commitment ever since. As he rose through the ranks of the Missouri Highway Patrol his commitment to Boys State grew stronger. He soon became the Missouri Highway Patrol Public Information Officer and along the way was promoted from Corporal to Sergeant to Lieutenant to Captain to Major. He retired from the Patrol as Lieutenant Colonel and assistant Superintendent in 1996 after 32 years of meritorious service. Following his retirement he served on the staff of the Missouri Gaming Commission as a Department Director overseeing all enforcement activities. He retired from that position in 2001. In 2004, Governor Bob Holden appointed him to serve on the Missouri Gaming Commission. He served in that capacity through 2006.
At Boys State, he first served as a member of the staff in the Law Enforcement School where he taught a wide array of law enforcement subjects. After a couple of years of service he became dean of the Law Enforcement School. In 1990, he was named to the Missouri Boys State Board of Directors. In 1996, he was named Boys State Treasurer and a member of the Boys State Executive Committee. In 2002, he was instrumental in the development and subsequent move of the MBS Headquarters office to the campus of Central Missouri State University. Aside from his board duties as treasurer, he currently serves on the operations staff at Boys State and oversees the Charlie Mickey Boys State Bank.
He remains very active in several community projects and charities. During his tenure at the Missouri Highway Patrol he began his involvement with the Missouri Special Olympics and specifically the Law Enforcement Torch Run for the Missouri Special Olympics. He worked on the very first torch run many years ago which raised $3,000. Now, the Torch Run raises over a million dollars annually for Missouri Special Olympics. He joined the board of directors for the Missouri Special Olympics in 1987 and since has served the board in many capacities including Chairman of the Board from 1991-1993. He is currently Treasurer for that organization. He was also a founding member of the Mid-Missouri Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America and an active member of the Optimist Club in Jefferson City.
Ralph Biele continues to work tirelessly for the Boys State program and has faithfully served as a role model for participants and staff.
