Day to Day Activities - Wednesday, June 20, 2012

An Outlook on the Day

Wednesday began with the State Primary election and followed by another round of Schools of Instruction time.

With the State General Election gearing up, all of the citizens were quite busy

The citizens will investigate each candidate’s eligibility as well as some investigavite journalism by the MBS media outlets.

In the State Primary Election the boys vote on their Nationalist and Federalist candidates in the Statewide Election for the offices of; Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, State Auditor, State Treasurer, and Attorney General.

Later into the day the citizens will discover the results of the primary held earlier in the day. Those candidates will then have the opportunity to campaign the rest of the evening, including the Joint Party Rally where they have the opportunity to speak in front of the entire Missouri Boys State and appeal to the voters.

Progression throughout the State

After voting for in the State Primary Election the boys would head off to their respective Schools of Instruction for a brief one hour session. Once the schools were dismissed, the citizens take flight once more in their efforts to create cities, counties, and an entire state in the image that they envision.

This includes decorating, city park creating, and many more activities to amp the image of the cities of Missouri Boys State.

Governmental activities occur simultaniously during this time of city construction. Having citizens with jobs and duties throughout the state, everyone understands how the absence of their fellow citizens who holds these positions has an effect. Hard work and cooperation rings through the cities that begin to stand out, the citizens often learn there is more to being a leader than just having speaking abilities, it is about patience and initiative to take charge and work with one another to accomplish the tasks set out to complete.

Following lunch, the citizens assemble at the quadrangle to hear the primary election results.

With the election results announced, the chosen candidates are briefed on their next steps in their campaign. Citizens and candidates are released to attend their respective Governmental Activities and campaign freely untill the Gubernatorial Debate.

Athletics

The third day of the athletics competition kicks off with Richardson City leading by five points over Pershing City.

These competitions begin to heat up as the week progresses; to win the athletics competition for the week is always a strong area for citizens pride.

Candidates Speak and Campaign

The Joint Party Rally, is where the State Office candidates speak directly to the entire population of MBS citizens.

Each State Party Chairman opened the rally with short a short speech on the decided party platform.

On the Federalist side an interesting occurrence happened this year as the Chairmen for the party relinquished his chair and thew his support behind a citizen who wanted to be a third party candidate. After this occurrence the third party candidate spoke on his running for Governor as a write-in.

Speeches for the evening after this unplanned speech in the schedule would start with the Nationalist candidate then the Federalist candidate of the same office. The Supreme Court Justices would take the stage to give their speech for their retention election.

Each citizen running for an office would have approximately five minutes to speak with exception of the Governor candidates who would have six minutes. Once the speeches were finished and each candidate had attempted to sway the Boys State population as much as possible, the real campaigning would begin.

Campaigning would occur all across Boys State as every candidate made his attempt to win over or earn the citizens votes. The candidates would be socializing and interacting with citizens in many ways to sway their opinions towards them.

As the day comes to an end, the citizens settle into their cities for the evening City meeting. With the Mayor presiding, the cities plan for the next day would consist of getting all of their businesses and recreational facilities up and running.

The days to come at Boys State will be about maintaining and controlling a fully functioning government.
