College Credit

Successful completion of American Legion Boys State of Missouri as defined by the course syllabus distributed during the program qualifies a citizen to apply for two (2) or three (3) hours of college credit from University of Central Missouri.

Qualified citizens will be contacted by the University of Central Missouri in the Fall following their participation in the program. Each qualified citizen will be sent a letter or email from the University by October 1 explaining the process to apply and pay for the credit.

Enrollment forms and payments typically must be received by November 20. Please check with University of Central Missouri Excented Campus office for the correct date as late applications will not be accepted.

Did you know...
Every citizen who attends Missouri Boys State is eligible for over $2 million dollars in scholarships from Missouri colleges and universities. In addition, two (2) or three (3) hours of college credit are available from the University of Central Missouri.

 

The Harley Wyatt Memorial Scholarship Program

 

Participants who successfully complete The American Legion Missouri Boys State program in its entirety and finish in good standing will be eligible to apply for the following scholarship opportunities:

Citizen of the Week
1 at $8,000

During the 2011 session of Boys State, a "Citizen of the Week" will be selected to receive the 40/8 Kickapoo Voiture Locale 760 Wayne Gregory Memorial Scholarship of $2,000 per year for up to 4 years to cover costs and fees, payable to a College or University of the recipient's choice. Must meet requirements as published by the MBS Memorial Trust, including a 3.0 GPA, and return as a staff member of Boys State annually.

 

   

Governor's Scholarship
1 at $500

The citizen elected as the Missouri Boys State Governor is eligible to receive a $500 scholarship from The American Legion Scholarship Committee, payable to a College or University of the recipient's choice. Must meet requirements including returning the following year as a staff member and successfully performing his executive duties as Governor.

Samsung Scholarship

One at $1,000 or One at $20,000

Each participant who successfully completes the 2011 session of Missouri Boys State and meets the scholarship criteria may apply for the Samsung/American Legion Scholarship.  Applicant must be a direct descendant of a U.S. veteran who served during a period of war.  Documentation showing the veteran served on active duty during eligibility period(s) indicated on the front of the application is required. Accepted forms of documentation are listed here. Deadline:  Must be postmarked by June 30, 2011.  One national finalist will be selected from the applications received from participants of Missouri Boys State.  The Missouri national finalist will then compete against nearly 100 other national finalists selected from the Boys State and Girls State programs for approximately ten $20,000 national scholarships.   The remaining national finalists will each receive a $1,000 scholarship.

Central Christian College of the Bible
Unlimited at $8,800 each - Renewable up to 4 years

Central Christian College of the Bible will award a full tuition scholarship to qualified incoming freshmen who have demonstrated leadership experience, such as Missouri Boys State, and meet admission criteria.  The scholarship is renewable, up to four years, for recipients maintaining full-time status and a “C” average.  Scholarships also available for part-time students.

Central Methodist University
Half Tuition - Renewable

Central Methodist University will offer a Leadership Scholarship of half tuition to Boys State participants.   The half tuition scholarship increases with the cost of tuition each academic year and cannot be used in conjunction with other CMU scholarships.  A student must apply and be accepted to Central Methodist University.  They must indicate on the admission application that they are a Boys State participant.  The scholarship is renewable for a maximum of 8 semesters and the student must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 in order to renew it.

Applicant must be a Missouri Boys State Citizen (the summer prior to enrollment) and rank in the top 30% of his high school class to qualify for this tuition waiver.  The recipient will receive a work grant valued at $1,300 per year, renewable if a 3.0 GPA is maintained and a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester are completed at Linn State Technical College.  Missouri Boys State Participation Certificate must be presented to the Office of Financial Aid. Priority deadline is May 1 for fall enrollment.  Application must be completed and returned to the Office of Financial Aid.

Missouri Southern State University
10 at $800 each - Renewable

High School graduates, who are Missouri Boys State Citizens and score 26 or above composite score on the ACT Placement Test may receive the MSSU Boys State Scholarship valued at $800 per year.  It is renewable up to 8 semesters if the student completes at least 12 credit hours per semester and earns a 2.5 semester GPA the first semester and a 3.0 semester GPA each semester thereafter.  This scholarship must be used within one year after graduation and must apply to tuition or campus residence housing.  The MSSU Boys State Scholarship cannot be combined with other academic scholarships.

Missouri State University will offer up to 5 awards of $1,000 each year to entering freshmen who participated in Boys State.  To be chosen for this competitive award, students must have both a solid academic record and a strong record of leadership.  This award is non-renewable.  It can be combined with other Missouri State awards and scholarships with the exception of the Presidential, Governors, and Multicultural Leadership Scholarship.  Students must apply for admission, submit the general scholarship application, and provide verification of Boys State attendance to the Office of Student Financial Aid by March 1 of their senior year.  Standard policies with respect to scholarship eligibility, available online at www.missouristate.edu/financialaid, apply to this award.
